YULLI'S BAR_SURRY HILLS
Now open and pumping Yulli's stocks 24 NSW boutique beers and vegeterian food. An interesting mix that goes well with an eclectic Surry Hills crowd that have become followers of this happening place. Pop down and enjoy the hospitality of Karl and Dan, great hosts!!
YULLI'S BAR_SURRY HILLS
With the brief to create a unique bar in Surry Hills within a tight budget there was a call to create something totally different. We used a kilometre of string and exposed coloured fluorescents to totally change the ambience.
A before shot of what we had to work with - a skinny dark terrace.
B BOUTIQUE_QVB SYDNEY
With a brief to introduce jewellery to the next generation, we incorporated a chandelier of 80 abstracted surveillance cameras to behold and entice the viewer.

The faceted heritage wall as we called it.
The feature wall with full height mirror and the beautiful fabric images with their glow.

AGED CARE UNITS_NEWCASTLE
A conceptual still we presented to our Clients for a 171 unit aged care facility in Newcastle.
MARNI FASHION HOUSE_DOUBLE BAY
For this Marni Fashion House retail store in Double Bay we were the local Architects, interpreting London based Sybarite's design for Australian conditions and regulations. Here a few shots inside and out. Eastons Builders took out the commercial shopfitters award for this fitout.
THE SHORE CLUB_MANLY
This is fantastic place that we were the Architects for located in beautiful Manly. Here a few shots showing the roof top bar with the retractable blinds that form shelter when the southerly kicks up. Well worth a visit for a beer on a hot sunny afternoon...or any afternoon for that matter...
TEMPORARY DWELLING_COMPETITION WINNER
This project 'Uplift' was selected through an international competition to be constructed as part of the Canberra Biennial. The brief was to create a temporary dwelling, and it was great to see this design realised. We took the premise of using a structural system that was already temporary - scaffolding. This was designed after the 2004 Tsunami and was a response to emergency housing becoming 'permanent' housing. The idea is that the scaffolding forms the temporary emergency housing and then becomes the construction infrastructure to create the new permanent housing and civic buildings.
LOW RISE HOUSING_LAKE MACQUARIE
Some renderings of low rise housing in the Lake Macquarie area. This project required us to work closely with Lake Macquarie Council to show that the 16 unit development would be sympathetic to the existing streetscape.
RESIDENTIAL UNITS_SOLDIERS POINT
Renderings of 100 units designed on land next to a bowling club, we worked hard to create a building that did not rise above the crest of trees rising behind it and thus not interfere with the hill and tree line of the area.
Here a Kevin Snell initial sketch design inspired by scattered honey pots in the Australian bush. The development of this is shown in the renderings above.
MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT_NEWCASTLE
A conceptual render depicting the 'smoke-stack' elevator tower rising to connect the ground, with the 50 metre public pool and then the roofscape.
MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT_NEWCASTLE
A few renderings that show the open space created by utilising a tall slim commercial and residential building rather than 3 mid sized wide buildings that would have filled the site, reducing the opportunity for functional open space.
STEYNE HOTEL_MANLY
This model is part of the package we put together as a formal audit of the building stock for the owners, so that decisions of the type of future development could be made.
SALT HOUSE
Located in the coastal development SALT, just below Kingscliff in northern NSW, this design sought to create a magnificent house that introduced a Great Hall to the normal genre of the Gold Coast home. Here in this first image, to the left the normal typology and to the right, the entry to the Great Hall.
The two typologies from the beach, the Great Hall to the left, with its dining room opening out onto a reflective pool.

Formal living in its open state. Formal dining in the distance down the stairs.
Formal living in its home theatre mode.
Living room looking toward the pool, which in the courtyard, is sheltered from the coastal southerlies.
HOUSE_CENTRAL COAST
Here some shots of a house that looks out over Brisbane Waters. Initially built to be as an investment, the Client was so pleased with it that he decided to sell his current home and move into this one. This project was built to a tight budget of $800,000.00
WATERWAY RESIDENCE_GEORGES RIVER
A rendering to indicate to Council that the renovations we proposed to this existing boathouse and residence were to be sympathetic to its waterway surroundings.
WORTH PLACE_NEWCASTLE WEST
A successful 40 unit apartment building in Newcastle in which all the apartments sold of the plan.
ALBERT STREET UNITS_WARNERS BAY
This site was the first cab of the rank as part of the re-zoning in Warner's Bay that turned single dwelling sites into commercial and medium density housing. In this case we achieved 11 individual apartments on the site with two commercial addresses. The Client was able to sell the whole development to a single investment purchaser.
KINSELAS_DARLINGHURST
The famous double storey height space in Kinselas that was once a Crematorium. We were also the Architects responsible for the Middle Bar and balcony upstairs.
ROYAL OAK HOTEL_DOUBLE BAY
A complete renovation of this hotel resulted in the introduction of three luxury apartments above the hotel areas. Understanding the importance of the corner, curved glazing was introduced and detailed renderings were prepared to communicate the refinement. Interestingly due to acid-sulphate soils and therefore the inability to excavate, a vehicle elevator system was introduced to allow residents to be elevated to, and park on their own apartment level.
BEACH HOUSE_FRESHWATER
Open plan viewing with a view.
RESIDENCE_KILCARE
The second house for these clients by us. Here we explored the idea of a formal cluster of buildings engaging with a lawn and then the surrounding bush.

MEREWETHER RESIDENCE_NEWCASTLE

REGIONAL RESIDENCE
Here a house in the woodland. The water is part of a man made dam with the latest fire fighting technology connected to ensure the buildings survival in a bush fire. This image shows the study pod, which you travel across a bridge to reach.
